How I’m learning to share exciting news on social media with honesty

Rather than just being happy, I am trying to be honest with my words

Three days ago, I was perched up at my roof, reading a book in the shade of the water tank, unsure of what to do apart from reading. The roof was warmer than usual, with the sun blanketing every corner of the area, save for the 100 litres tank that provided me an enormous space to sit behind. Small ants, a shooting peepal plant from a crack, pieces of gravel and swooping sounds of pigeons were my only companions. After about 30 odd minutes of speed read, I checked my phone to realise that my inbox had more emails than usual. As I checked through some of them, I found this email below:

I had been chosen to perform my poem at an event due in the coming weekend. For a few seconds, I couldn’t recall which poem I had submitted. It had been close to ten days since I had filled the google form, and had conveniently assumed a rejection.

What followed next was a flutter of excitement, rapid climb down to my bedroom, making calls to my best friends to inform them of this fantastic development. For the first time since I started performing my poems, this…
